Oil Bath Air Filter Cleaning (Hog Hair Filter)

Hog hair filter

I read a report a few years ago SAE comparing wicking bath oil filters for some popular folded paper and gauze oiled element filters. The bath oil was higher in all charges. VW knew what they were doing. It lasts forever and maintenance is not true that everyone involved.

I had to wash the filter element in los̢۪70. I sat with the top horsehair in a bucket of 5 gallons of kerosene for an hour. As it became apparent that he had to go through kerosene forever, I went to TSP and very hot water. I went to 3 changes of water ended in kerosene. It was amazing how that came out of horse hair, and fear. But when it ended hair seemed completely new and clean as a whistle. After the last wash water I hooked with a hair dryer at junction with duct tape and left to dry for a good half hour. All this is toasty warm without moisture left. Then I crossing once in kerosene, dried, and then mount it with a cleaned the bottom half of oil and new.

Have you had your filter regular maintenance of your entire life? And just what did VW figure was his life? I am quite happy with the outcome and feel much better about what is now the air although his truck sucks.
